Before a parcel reaches your destination through Ianis Courier’s state-of-the-art shipment solutions, you need to ensure the packing is done properly with little chances for damage. Adequate packing methods should be kept in my mind by every sender to keep the items intact inside the box. To ease your convenience, here we provide general information with respect to the proper standards to be followed while packing a box. However, bear in mind that this is not a one-size-fits-all approach because under certain circumstances depending on the shipping contents, it may require specialised packaging too.
When it comes to packing items in a box, make sure that you consider its size, strength and quality. The size of the box should be appropriate to the contents that go inside. Avoid overfilled boxes as they may burst and under-filled boxes are also likely to succumb. Always select boxes that are slightly bigger than the items you are putting inside the box. Make sure that you reinforce the box from within by using soft absorbent material along its top, bottom and sides.
Fragile items should be individually wrapped, heavier items should be allowed to sit on the bottom. Ensure that the corners and bottoms are not overstuffed. Finally, check if the shipping contents and the packing materials fill up the entire box. For instance, for shipment of books, fill the empty spaces inside the box by adding more packing materials. Inside the box, use cushioning such as bubble wrap, loose filled polystyrene or kraft paper. Leave 5-6 cm of cushioning between each item and between the items and wall of the box. Fill all remaining space so that the items absorb the shocks during the shipping process.
It is also advised to put the ‘To’ and ‘From’ information on a card on the inside of the box so it would be useful in cases where the box gets damaged or the label falls off. As a last step, reinforce the box from outside by properly closing the box and sealing with packing tape along the folds and edges. Make sure that you avoid string or ribbon tapes. Also, you want to strengthen the bottom side, in particular that heavy items do not fall through. Seal your box tightly with quality adhesive tape. It is advised to use an H taping method and also tape both ends of the box where the flaps close.
Attach the shipping labels on the flap top side of the parcel box. Make sure that the label is clearly visible. When using tape, be careful not to cover any labels. If you would like to reuse boxes make sure that old labels are either covered or removed and indeed, the boxes should be in good condition.
For added strength, use Corrugated cardboards that come with good quality outer liners. For the shipping of valuable items and transportation to far distance, use heavy duty double layered cardboard. Always use high quality materials. If you have more than one box, never strap the boxes together. Also, each box should have its own label.
